"So What's Behind all
this Teabag Stuff?" April 16, 2009
On April 15th, 2009 a
number of rallies were conducted under the banner of a TEA party, and a
tea bag was the symbol. The tea bag became more than a symbol at
the North Lawn of the White House as the teabag became a suspected terror
instrument causing the evacuation of the North Lawn. You see the
TEA party participants hurled their tea bags over the fence.
So what’s the deal with
these tea parties? Well their organizers selected TEA because it
was an acronym for “taxed enough already”! Ostensibly, each participant
was protesting the tax increases approved or recommended by President Barack
Obama.
I may have missed something
but as of now taxes have not been increased for anyone. As a matter
of fact, the converse of that is true; people have been receiving tax cuts.
That is everyone except the top two percent of all taxpayers; those individuals
that make over $250k per year.
As I looked over the participants
and tried to mentally assess their station in life I found it difficult
to believe that any of them were in that top two percent. In fact,
if anything, the resemblance to and out-of-work person was remarkable and
the absence of someone that just might have fit that infamous two percent
was just as remarkable.
As I mentioned previously,
in so far as I understand it, taxes have not increased for anyone.
However, many people received the benefit of the tax cut in paychecks just
days ago. Oh, wait a minute...to receive a paycheck you had to be
employed! So perhaps I was correct in my assessment regarding the
vast majority of protestors, they were out of work and did not immediately
realize the cut.
Well then, if their ox
was not gored, who possibly was injured by the Obama tax cut? No
one that I can tell! So then if no one has actually been injured
what is going on here?
To answer that question
we need to look at the individuals that were actively promoting this event.
Rush Limbaugh, the surrogates for Rupert Murdoch at Fixed News, and if
you looked closely you would have noticed nearly all of the Congressional
Republican leadership at many of the rallies.
That tells me that it
was a dance organized by the right wing fat cats who are hell-bent on undermining
anything advanced by our President Barack Obama. What is disturbing
is that their public face is so disingenuous. Senator John McCain
was on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and stated publicly that he wanted
his opponent from the last election to succeed.
What a bunch of baloney
that is. I have watched the news and on nearly every occasion where a measure
was being discussed in Congress, McCain has been out front for the Republican
side of our political polemic. I recall vividly tape recorded offerings
of the Arizona Senator bloviating in the well of the Senate and none of
his words sounded like support for the President.
So what’s behind all this
teabag stuff? Simply stated, the conservatives are behind this.
All the fat cats and windbags positioned intransigently to starboard and
committed to oppose anything that originates from any Democrat.
Again you ask, “So what’s
behind all this teabag stuff?” Well roll your mouse over the teabag
at the top of this page and you will see what’s behind it!
This TEA party thing has nothing to
do with teabags but everything to do with windbags!
