SPECTRE Revisited?
April 27, 2009

If like me you are a James Bond film
fan as I am, you surely recognize Ernst Stavro Blofeld who was that evil
genius that plagued Agent 007.
Always a perennial face of evil, Blofeld
led the organization known as SPECTRE (Special Executive for Counter-intelligence,
Terrorism, Revenge and Extortion).
Blofeld also was seemingly indestructible
because he kept reappearing in six different films, and at the end of each
of those pictures Blofeld always managed to slip away even as the latest
malevolent scheme is thwarted.
I recall vividly the cheers that would
go up from the moviegoers as Bond was again triumphant over evil.
Here in the United States we have our
own personification of Blofeld and if you roll your mouse over Blofeld’s
picture you will easily recognize my object of comparison.
Certainly I recall the cheers that marked
the end of the years of terror overseen by this modern day counterpart.
When it was official and he was no longer seated at the head of the conspiracy
we all thought that this certainly was the end of his prevaricating subterfuges,
and machinations that marked his evil reign.
Just like Blofeld and the proverbial
bad penny he always reappears and once again takes the bully pulpit to
denigrate the efforts of a thus far uncorrupted government.
When will he ever shut
up?
