The Palin(g) of Sarah

I don’t know about you
dear reader but somehow I still can’t quite get my brain wrapped around
this entire Sarah Palin thing. She hit the ground with a huge dose
of enthusiasm wrapped in bravado. It did not make any sense to me
that she was from Podunk, Alaska; much less that she had been a mayor of
her hometown of Wasilla and was now the governor of the state.
As the campaign wore on
the golly gee, shucks, dang, and you betcha began to have a hollow ring
to them. Tina Fey did such a great job impersonating Sarah and in
the spotlight of SNL all of those little colloquial expressions began to
smack of an insincerity that said to me she was trying way too hard to
be folksy.
Arguably she was a boon
and a bust simultaneously for the hopes of a red state victory a few days
ago. That her views were so far to the right of nearly any conservative
I know was enough for me to regard her as a political caricature and not
much more!
I provided all of the
above as a preface to insure that any reader would realize from the outset
that I am quite far removed from the category of a Sarah Palin fan!
That being said I find it absolutely appalling that all the scuttlebutt
and character assassinations are now being promulgated by former campaign
staff personnel aka anonymous sources.
I have been racking my
brain to try to deduce the purpose of this “all out nail Sarah to the back
fence” business. If their goal is to attempt to truly discredit her
then these unnamed persons are failing miserably. They are failing
because they lack the chutzpah to come out into the glare of the klieg
lights and be identified.
The political portrayals
of “Palin the Pathetic” are making her into a person to be pitied instead
of someone to be scorned and cast into the dust bin of history. Her
defenses against the shadowy cowards are demonstrating that she is far
more coherent and fundamentally fluent than how she appeared on those interviews
on CBS and ABC.
If their goal was to discredit
her enough to render her a political non-entity then they have failed miserably.
She is actually gaining ground in any quest for opportunities for higher
offices.
So can we say that the
luster that she manifested on Friday, August 29th, 2008 and amplified at
the Republican convention has now paled as a result of the current attacks?
I think not, if anything the reverse is true and her star power will increase
and her credibility grow….she’s not paling, she is Palin!
