The Biggest Bet!      March 20, 2007

The Biggest Bet!

There are plenty of opportunities in Las Vegas to gamble and each of the casinos would be more than happy to take all the money you wanted to lose and more.

The games of course are not designed for you to hit it big.  For example, the slot machine very often is pre-programmed to a set percentage return.  For example, if were set to 80/20 it would pay out 20 dollars for every 100 dollars put in.  Not a very good return I would say!

Knowing full well that the slot machine and the other games of chance are ready to take and keep the money - still thousands flock to Vegas and other gambling venues just to throw their money away.  Some gamblers are prepared to bet it all on the chance that they will "hit the big jackpot"!

But what if in order to win big, the bet was your life?  To win the big jackpot you really had to put your life on the line for one roll of the dice.  A truly a 50/50 proposition - if you win, you win, if you lose, you die.  Like the odds?  Some would call that the "sucker's bet", and millions of people worldwide must like taking that chance because they take it with every waking moment.

Recently, one of my friends commented that most everyone had their mind made up when it comes down to the issue of faith and for that reason would discontinue any further discourse on the subject.  While it is true that there are many that have professed the "isms" of atheism and agnosticism, there those of us that have accepted fully the existence of Jesus Christ and what He came to do on this earth.

I will accept my friend's premise and end this brief piece, but let me ask one simple question.  If some are correct that there is no heaven, what am I losing?  Nothing!

On the other hand if my view is correct then I have everything to gain and those that would discount my view have everything to lose.

Tell me then, who of us is placing the "sucker's bet"?
