One Hundred!
April 30, 2009

Contrary to a fortunately small portion
of the electorate I applaud President Obama for his achievements in his
first 100 days in office. If my opinion means anything and if my
viewpoint was the foundation for the polls, he would receive a favorability
rating of 100, a 100 to none on job approval, and 100 to none in taking
the country in the right direction.
Granted he has had great support from
our party. The Democratic majority in the House and the near Super-Majority
in the Senate coupled with one or two from the other side of the aisle
have allowed the President to accomplish a great deal within a very short
time frame. Of course there is much more that must be done and I
have every confidence that the “Change I Believed In” will occur.
The “Neo-Cons” in one way or another
have run the country into the ground in their attempts to allow an ultra-conservative
view be the bedrock of our society. Their so-called seeking freedom
actually means the denying of basic civil rights to so many and what is
so tragic to me in that equation is that they cling tenaciously to the
notion that they are only in keeping with the intent of the founding fathers.
One only has to look at the freedoms
that Jefferson, Franklin, et al, built into the Constitution and the Bill
of Rights to realize the flaws in their dialectic. The coalition
formed by the political far right ideologues, aka the States Rightists
and the Religious Right and their brand of politics has harmed all of us!
The President was well intentioned to
desire a bipartisan approach in the effort to solve our problems.
His hope that the parties could work together perhaps was overly optimistic
but it was not based on a naiveté, but rather a calculated process
to let the conservatives show their true colors and boy howdy they surely
have!
Back in the day, or more specifically
the 80’s and 90’s Just Say No was the theme used to combat the drug culture.
Thus far in the 111th Congress the only contribution made by the Republicans
is to reprise that theme by just saying no to every bit of legislation
that has been introduced.
So what about their 1st 100 days; what
grade would I give them? I must admit I am puzzled by how to translate
“you suck’ to a letter grade!
